The UK was involved in the development of the US initiative for a 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, BBC reports.

According to the outlet's sources in the UK government, efforts have been made in Europe over the past week, under the leadership of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to improve relations between Ukraine and the US.

BBC interlocutors note that last week, UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, along with his US counterpart Mike Waltz, as well as German and French officials, worked on a plan for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

Over the weekend, Powell visited Kyiv to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and help draft a proposal that includes a temporary truce, a prisoner exchange, and the return of deported Ukrainian children.

European officials aimed to shift the focus onto Russia.

Ceasefire

On March 11, Ukrainian and US delegations discussed the US initiative for a ceasefire with Russia. In the end, Kyiv supported it.

As Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted, this step could pave the way toward ending the war.

At the same time, the Ukrainian official assured that there is no talk of freezing the conflict.
