The UK will provide an aid package worth £20 million ($27 million) to ensure access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services in the Gaza Strip, according to Reuters.

The government also noted that the funding will be delivered through UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the Norwegian Refugee Council. The aid is aimed at supporting those suffering from hunger and disease.

In addition, Britain will host a three-day summit on Gaza’s reconstruction, which will bring together representatives from governments, the private sector, and development finance institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank.

This financial year, Britain has already provided £74 million in humanitarian aid to Palestine, which it officially recognized as a state in September.

In addition, Keir Starmer has arrived in Egypt for a summit of world leaders dedicated to ending the conflict, which will take place on Monday, October 13.

Peace agreement on the Gaza Strip

Donald Trump’s peace plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip consists of 20 points and envisions the creation of an international Peace Council tasked with overseeing a Palestinian committee responsible for the enclave’s daily administration.

Since October 6, indirect talks between Israel and Hamas have been underway in Egypt, mediated by representatives from Egypt, the US, and Qatar.

On October 9, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on implementing the first phase of his peace plan.

Under the agreement, the Israeli army will withdraw its forces to new positions within the Gaza Strip while maintaining control over roughly 53% of the enclave’s territory. Within three days, Hamas is to release all 48 Israeli hostages.

Israeli authorities reported that the release of hostages is set to begin on Monday, October 13, between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, on Monday, October 13, Egypt will host the international forum Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, aimed at resolving the situation in the Middle East and achieving lasting peace in the region.

Leaders from more than 20 countries are expected to attend the meeting.
