UK expands sanctions on vessels and entities involved in Russian LNG sector
The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on five vessels and two entities involved in the transportation of Russian LNG, including the Arctic LNG 2 project. These measures aim to reduce funding that supports Russia's war against Ukraine, according to the British government's statement.
LNG plays a key role in Russia's economy, serving as an important source of income for the country. In particular, Moscow aims to increase its share in the global LNG market from 8% to 20%. However, the UK, along with the US and the European Union, had previously imposed restrictions on the Arctic LNG 2 project, forcing it to cut production.
The new sanctions target companies and vessels actively involved in Russian energy projects critical to future LNG production. In total, the UK has sanctioned 15 vessels and entities connected to Russian LNG. Today's measures affect the following vessels:
- PIONEER (IMO 9256602)
- ASYA ENERGY (IMO 9216298)
- NOVA ENERGY (IMO 9324277)
- NORTH SKY (IMO 9953523)
- SCF LA PEROUSE (IMO 9849887)
The following operators of these vessels have also been sanctioned:
- OCEAN SPEEDSTAR SOLUTIONS OPC – operator of the PIONEER and ASYA ENERGY vessels
- WHITE FOX SHIP MANAGEMENT – operator of the NORTH SKY vessel
Under British sanctions law, the listed vessels are banned from accessing UK ports and may face other restrictions, including seizure and denial of registration.
Sanctions against Russian LNG remain a key element of international pressure on Russia in the context of its aggressive actions in Ukraine.
