The UK Home Office has stated that it has recorded the highest level of deportations in the country since 2016. The figure is nearly one hundred thousand people, reports Sky News.

According to a government statement, more than 80,000 people have been removed from the UK since the 2024 elections, which is 52% more than in the two years before the elections.

The Home Office reported that among those deported are:

  • Foreign criminals;
  • Individuals who violated immigration laws;
  • Individuals who are unlawfully present in the UK.

The number of deportations has reached its highest level since 2016. Of the total number of deportations:

  • 24,471 people were returned in connection with asylum claims;
  • 6,103 were migrants who arrived on small boats;
  • 11,733 were foreign nationals who committed offenses.

UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that these statistics send a clear signal – London is happy to welcome those who come legally, and will send back those who arrived illegally or violate the law.

"I know there is more to be done. That is why we are pursuing new legislation that will more swiftly remove those here illegally, and we are doubling funding to our immigration enforcement teams by 2028," she concluded.

Other incidents

Yesterday, media reported that on August 19, around 60 migrants again reached mainland Spain. The incident occurred in the province of Murcia, where a boat carrying people approached the coast near La Manga Club.

Earlier, we wrote that in Ceuta, hundreds of migrants staged a protest on the city beach, demanding asylum in Spain. These were the migrants who had become stranded in the enclave after the mass border breach several weeks ago.
