UK Defense Secretary warns of deterioration of Ukraine's frontline situation
The front line is less stable than ever since the first days of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to UK Defense Secretary John Healey.
At a meeting of the Special Committee on Defense, Healey described a grim picture of the situation in Ukraine.
He said that Russia has already escalated several times, including increased attacks on energy infrastructure ahead of winter, the deployment of at least 10,000 North Korean troops, and increased attacks that kill children.
The Defense Minister did not confirm that the Russians had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile at Ukraine, only acknowledging that it had been reported in the media.
On November 21, Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile at the Dnipro River. This information was confirmed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “All the characteristics – speed, altitude – point to an intercontinental ballistic missile,” the President said.
Russian offensive
Russia has been on the offensive since October last year. During this time, they have managed to capture several cities in the Donetsk region. These include Avdiivka, Vuhledar, and Selydove.
Russia's creeping advance continues in several directions at once - Kupiansk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Vuhledar. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces occupied a part of Russia's Kursk region in August and are still holding these territories.
According to experts, it is unlikely that Ukraine will switch from defense to offense in the winter. At least until the inauguration of the next US President Donald Trump on January 20, 2025.
