Concerns are growing in the United Kingdom over the pace of strengthening the country's defense capabilities, an issue that has now been raised within the nation's military leadership, according to Reuters.

Military leaders warn that delays in modernizing the armed forces could put the country’s readiness for modern threats at risk, including those posed by Russia, British media report.

In particular, concerns have been noted in the kingdom over the pace of implementation of long-term defense modernization plans, which are intended to strengthen the armed forces, upgrade equipment, and expand the country's defense capabilities in the coming years.

According to British media, key issues include delays in budget planning and coordination of funding between government bodies. This is affecting the speed of arms procurement programs, the development of military infrastructure, and improvements in the army’s combat readiness.

Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom Richard Knighton, as reported by the media, has expressed concern that the country may be falling behind the pace of rising global threats and needs to accelerate defense reforms.

Military leadership emphasizes that the current security situation in Europe is changing rapidly. Against this backdrop, particular attention is being paid to threats linked to Russia, as well as cybersecurity and hybrid attacks, which have become part of modern conflicts.

It is also noted that defense investment programs are a key element of the United Kingdom's long-term strategy within NATO. They are expected to define priorities for rearmament, equipment modernization, and the development of cooperation with allies.

At the same time, defense experts warn that any delays in funding or political decision-making could affect the country's defense capabilities and its ability to respond quickly to crises.

Recall that London and Warsaw are preparing to sign a new security agreement that provides for expanded military cooperation, the development of air defense systems, and joint efforts to counter cyberattacks.

RBC-Ukraine also reported that France, Germany, and the UK are joining forces to develop hypersonic missiles.
