UK announces early Parliamentary elections
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced Parliament dissolution and early elections. This happened after his conversation with King Charles III, according to Sky News.
"Now is the moment for Britain to choose its future. To decide whether we want to build on the progress we have made, or risk going back to square one with no plan and no certainty," stated Sunak.
According to him, the elections will take place at a time when the world is becoming more dangerous than it has been since the end of the Cold War.
He called the war in Ukraine a key “risk” as well as “the forces of Islamist extremism” in the Middle East that threaten global security.
Sunak announced that the elections would take place on Thursday, July 4.
It is worth noting that many call 2024 the year of the big elections. For the first time in history, elections will be held in more than 70 countries.
