The United Kingdom and Sweden are allocating £300 million (about $400 million) to purchase modern aircraft for Ukraine, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

Ukraine to receive 16 aircraft from partners

Starmer announced €300 million in support for the delivery of 16 aircraft that will help protect Ukrainian skies from Russian attacks.

According to Starmer, the United Kingdom is providing this assistance in cooperation with Sweden.

"I'm pleased to tell you that we're going further today because I can announce that the UK will provide 300 million euros of support, working together with Sweden to provide 60 new advanced aircraft to help defend Ukraine's skies," he emphasized.

Sweden to transfer Gripen jets to Ukraine

In May, it became known that Sweden would officially transfer 16 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine and sell another 22 new aircraft. The country's Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, announced this.

It also became known that Ukraine would receive the first batch of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets equipped with long-range Meteor air-to-air missiles.

Ukraine and Sweden are preparing to sign contracts for the supply of Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets. These aircraft have officially been identified as one of the priorities for strengthening the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
