The United Kingdom and Germany signed a large-scale friendship agreement that will strengthen the ties between the two countries in a number of areas, including defense, according to Reuters.

As noted by the Berlin analytical center SWP, the agreement is a sign of normalization of German-British relations after Brexit, and also a sign that London has become an even more important security partner due to “transatlantic uncertainty.”

Reuters explains that Germany already has similar agreements with other countries, for example, France.

In particular, according to an unnamed official, "in light of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, is highly significant."

What the agreement provides for

London and Berlin have committed to "pursue joint export campaigns" in order to attract orders from other countries for equipment they produce together, such as Typhoon Eurofighter fighter jets and Boxer armored personnel carriers.

It is also worth noting that, as the media have reported, Berlin and Germany will commit to jointly implementing a program over the next decade to create a new long-range missile complex called Deep Precision Strike.

Apart from defense, the agreement includes an arrangement to develop a new direct railway connection between the two countries and joint efforts to combat illegal migration.

"Germany pledged to outlaw the facilitation of illegal migration to Britain, with a law change by the end of the year," writes Reuters.

RBC-Ukraine wrote that at the beginning of June, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a large-scale military modernization in response to the growing global threat.

Meanwhile, Germany is considering the possibility of purchasing Typhon systems from the United States of America (USA), which are capable of launching missiles at a range of about 2,000 kilometers.
