Germany wants to buy US Typhon long-range systems

Germany is considering the purchase of Typhon systems, which can launch missiles with a range of around 2,000 kilometers, ntv reports.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, during his visit to Washington, explained the unique features of these missile systems.
"Simply put, these are ground-based launchers that can fire various guided missiles at different ranges," Pistorius noted.
The key feature of the American system is its ability to launch different types of missiles. This weapons system is capable of reaching targets within Russian territory, but the German Defense Minister emphasized that it would serve solely as a deterrent.
At the same time, Pistorius stressed that a final decision on purchasing the advanced missile system has not yet been made - Germany has only expressed interest in the weapon.
Meanwhile, the United States is currently assessing whether it is ready to sell and deliver the Typhon system.
Typhon details
Typhon is a mobile, ground-based launcher designed to fire multi-role Standard SM-6 missiles and Tomahawk cruise missiles, with a range of over 2,000 kilometers.
Typhon is the land-based version of the shipborne Mk41 vertical launch system.
The contract with Lockheed Martin for the development of these systems was signed in November 2020, after the collapse of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty - the agreement between the US and Russia that had banned testing and deploying ground-launched missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.
