UK and EU to strengthen measures against Russia's shadow oil fleet - Bloomberg
The United Kingdom intends to call on several European countries to take action against the so-called shadow fleet of oil tankers that Russia uses to circumvent international sanctions, according to Bloomberg.
According to the agency, several governments plan to approve the action plan during a meeting of the European Political Community to be held on Thursday in the UK.
In particular, it is planned to exchange information about the Russian fleet, as well as “to coordinate our responses to the risks posed by its ships and facilitators, and to work with the private sector and other maritime stakeholders to address the threat".
Countries are trying to make it even more difficult for Russia to profit from its oil resources. The sanctions aim to turn Russia into a pariah in traditional oil transportation markets and cut off access to major tankers and service providers.
14th EU sanctions package
Recently, European Union ambassadors agreed on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia. It later became known that these measures would, for the first time, target Russia's liquefied natural gas.
Subsequently, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the new EU sanctions would hit Russia's oil shadow fleet, with nearly 70 individuals facing restrictions.
