U.S. strikes Houthi targets in Yemen three times today, says White House
On January 19, the United States carried out three new strikes on Houthi anti-ship missile sites in Yemen, deeming these actions necessary for self-defense, says Coordinator of the National Security Council at the White House John Kirby.
"This morning, U.S. forces conducted three successful self-defense strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen," Kirby explained.
According to him, in the past week, the U.S. has carried out a total of four such strikes on Houthi missile installations deployed for attacks.
Kirby noted that the targets of today's three strikes were anti-ship missiles belonging to the militants.
The National Security Council Coordinator explained that such actions are taken for self-defense purposes. The strikes help secure international waters.
Houthi attacks
Recalling, in November of the previous year, Yemeni Houthi rebels began attacking ships near the Yemeni coast. This occurred after the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The actions of the Houthi rebels began to impact global trade, as a crucial trade route passes by the Yemeni coast.
In response, the United Kingdom and the U.S. launched missile strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen. The countries also emphasized that if the militants continue their attacks, the strikes will persist.
