U.S. planning another military aid package for Ukraine, potentially last, White House states
The United States intends to provide another package of military aid to Ukraine in December. However, it might be the last one, reports a Politico journalist on X, according to the statement of the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby.
"The US is still planning to release one more package of military aid for Ukraine later this month. But that could be the last one until Congress acts to pass more funding," he stated.
Kirby noted that after this, the White House would no longer have the authority to replenish supplies.
Issues with U.S. financial assistance to Ukraine
In October of this year, U.S. President Joe Biden requested over $106 billion from Congress for national security needs. Among them was new funding for military aid to Ukraine amounting to over $61 billion.
However, on December 6th, the U.S. Senate blocked the start of debates on the military aid package. This was due to demands from the Republican Party to include a stricter set of measures to protect the southern border with Mexico in the bill.
Republicans and Democrats have initiated negotiations to reach a compromise on providing funding for military aid to Ukraine. Against this backdrop, the U.S. Senate decided to continue its work before the Christmas holidays.
