U.S. military claims to shot down Houthi drones and missiles over Red Sea
According to U.S. military sources, they successfully thwarted a large-scale Houthi attack in the Red Sea. The rebels launched these attacks from Yemen, reports the Times of Israel .
U.S. military officials stated that the Houthis launched 12 UAVs, three ballistic missiles, and two cruise missiles during a 10-hour attack, all of which were successfully intercepted.
"The guided-missile destroyer, and an unspecified number of F-18 fighter jets shot down 12 attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles and two cruise missiles that the Houthis launched over a 10-hour stretch," reported the Central Command.
As a result, no ships were damaged, and there were no reports of injuries.
Houthi attack in the Red Sea
Since November, the Houthis have continued attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea, particularly those with connections to Israel. On December 16, a British destroyer successfully intercepted a drone with a Sea Viper missile that was attempting to attack a merchant vessel in the Red Sea.
The United States is considering the possibility of striking the Houthis in response to their attacks on merchant ships.
Earlier, we reported that Houthis from Yemen launched four drones towards a U.S. destroyer, and U.S. military officials confirmed the incident, reporting damage to the UAVs.
We also reported an incident where a drone attacked a merchant ship flying the flag of Liberia in the Indian Ocean.
