On Saturday, December 30, the United States intercepted two rockets launched by the Houthi rebels from Yemen towards a container ship in the southern part of the Red Sea, reports the U.S. Central Command.

According to sources, the container ship under the flag of Singapore, MAERSK HANGZHOU, reported being hit by a missile while sailing through the southern part of the Red Sea. The vessel requested assistance, and two U.S. destroyers responded.

In response, the U.S. warship GRAVELY intercepted two anti-ship ballistic missiles launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen towards the ships. This marks the 23rd incident of the Houthi rebels illegally targeting international shipping since November 19.

The vessel is reported to be afloat, and there is no information about casualties.

Houthi attack on ships in the Red Sea

Since November, the Houthi rebels have continued their attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea with connections to Israel.

Earlier reports indicated that U.S. military forces intercepted drones and missiles launched by the Houthis over the Red Sea.

Additionally, on December 16, a British destroyer successfully intercepted a drone with a Sea Viper missile, preventing an attack on a merchant vessel in the Red Sea.

It is worth noting that the drone targeted a merchant ship sailing under the flag of Liberia in the Indian Ocean.
