Tusk plans to urge European leaders to reinforce NATO's eastern flank

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk believes that NATO's eastern flank should be strengthened. He will ask his allies to support this at the summit in London on March 2, informs BBC.
“It will be a real test of the intentions and capabilities of each European state to have more European troops present in Finland, the Baltic states, and Poland on the border with Russia and Belarus,” he said.
Tusk noted that Poland needs an additional insurance policy to strengthen the country’s and Europe’s defense capabilities. He believes Europe must take greater responsibility for the continent's security.
"It’s a paradox, someone rightly pointed this out, that 500 million Europeans are asking 300 million Americans to defend them from 140 million Russians,” Tusk added.
The Polish Prime Minister also stated that he supports the proposal from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to convene a summit of European leaders and the US.
Poland reinforces its border with Russia and Belarus
Earlier, Poland and the Baltic States proposed to the European Union the construction of a 700-kilometer defense line on the border with Russia and Belarus.
Additionally, Poland launched the Eastern Shield project, which will reinforce its border with Russia and Belarus. The Polish government has allocated 10 billion zlotys for this initiative.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has stated that the Eastern Shield is aimed at deterring a potential aggressor. He mentioned that Poland has already started constructing fortifications on its border with Russia.
