On Monday, December 15, Turkish military forces shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle approaching the country’s airspace over the Black Sea, according to Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense on Twitter (X).
According to Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense, the aerial target was identified as a drone that had gone out of control. To prevent potential negative consequences, a decision was made to neutralize it.
The drone was shot down by F-16 fighter jets. The Ministry emphasized that it was downed in a safe area, away from populated locations.
"An air track approaching our airspace over the Black Sea was detected and monitored. It was identified as an out-of-control UAV and shot down in a safe area away from residential zones," the ministry’s statement reads.
Attacks on tankers
On November 29, RBC-Ukraine sources reported that Ukrainian maritime drones, Sea Baby, struck two tankers of Russia’s shadow fleet in the Black Sea. The vessels in question were the Kairo and Virat tankers.
According to sources, the tankers were empty and en route to the port of Novorossiysk for loading. These ships, used by Russia to finance its war against Ukraine, were taken out of operation.
By December 2, it became known that the Russian tanker Midvolga 2 was attacked in the Black Sea near Türkiye’s coast.
Later, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Ukrainian and Russian diplomats due to the strikes on the Russian shadow fleet tankers in the Black Sea.
