Following a phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his American counterpart Donald Trump, new speculation has emerged regarding the possible delivery of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine, Reuters reports.

According to the outlet, President Zelenskyy stated that he discussed air defense during his conversation with President Trump and agreed to work on enhancing Kyiv's ability to "defend the sky" amid escalating Russian attacks.

Reuters noted that during the call, Ukraine requested that Washington sell it additional Patriot missiles and systems, which the country views as critical to protecting its cities from intensifying Russian airstrikes.

A source familiar with the discussion said the US is optimistic about resuming Patriot deliveries after what was described as a "very good" conversation between the two presidents.

Trump–Zelenskyy call

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump held a phone call today, July 4.

According to Zelenskyy, he and Trump agreed to work on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense against Russian attacks.

According to the Ukrainian President, he and Trump also agreed to hold a meeting between the US and Ukrainian teams.

It’s worth noting that the conversation took place against the backdrop of a pause in US arms shipments to Ukraine, particularly affecting deliveries of Patriot missiles.

Earlier, the American outlet Axios, citing unnamed sources, reported that the call lasted about 40 minutes and that Trump told Zelenskyy he would check "what was put on hold, if anything".
