The US leader made a statement on the war in Ukraine. In particular, he noted that he had spoken both with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and by phone with Vladimir Putin.
Trump said that both sides are losing a lot of soldiers, adding that "Russia's losing more, because they are the offensive one."
He said that during his Sunday call with the Russian leader, he shared information he had. The US President also described his conversations with the leaders of both countries as "productive" and expressed confidence that they need to talk.
"I think they both want to do something. They just don’t know how to do it," Trump said.
After the situation involving Iran was resolved, Trump said that Washington’s next priority would be finding ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war. According to him, the fighting takes the lives of around 25,000 people every month.
Zelenskyy and Trump also discussed the possibility of holding talks involving the Russian leader on US territory. Such a format is expected to make it harder for the Kremlin leader to avoid direct dialogue.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Foreign Ministry does not rule out that negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine could begin as early as this summer. Berlin believes the war has effectively reached a stalemate and that Putin may be considering a diplomatic settlement.
