US President Donald Trump agreed with G7 leaders that Russia has shown no serious willingness to engage in peace negotiations, states French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a post from the Élysée Palace on Twitter (X).

"Several months have passed since the Americans took the initiative, and I would like to praise them. They said they would hold talks with Russia because they are able to do so," he noted.

Macron added that he would like to highly commend US efforts to establish dialogue with Russia, but those efforts have produced no results, and there has been no response from the aggressor state. The French president noted that European leaders also united to engage in talks with Russia.

"What happened? Nothing. And then Zelenskyy (President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, – ed.) also said, 'I am ready too. I am ready to hold full talks with Russia to reach an agreement with it.' What did Putin reply? 'No. I will not come. Or you must first surrender,'" Macron emphasized.

The French leader stated that Trump agreed with G7 leaders that "there was no serious willingness from Russia to hold peace talks or negotiations at all."

"We all agreed that Ukraine has resisted much better than some feared, and that Russia is in a difficult position. And we all agreed that we will strengthen our support for Ukraine," he commented on Zelenskyy’s briefing on the situation at the front.

After resolving the Iranian crisis, Donald Trump said that Washington plans to focus on finding ways to end the war in Ukraine. According to him, around 25,000 people die each month due to the fighting.

Zelenskyy and Trump discussed the possibility of organizing a meeting with the Russian dictator in the US. Such a format of talks is expected to make it harder for the Kremlin leader to avoid dialogue.
