The US continues to pressure Ukraine to reach a peace agreement with Russia, warning that the situation could otherwise deteriorate dramatically, according to US President Donald Trump, as reported by the White House.

Trump insists on a peace deal

Trump said that Russia is a "big machine" that has seized a very large part of Ukraine's territory. Therefore, it is in Ukraine's own interest to want to end this war.

"Zelenskyy has to want to settle this war. And if he doesn't, I think it's going to be a very bad thing," the US president said.

According to Trump, the US has provided Ukraine with enormous amounts of aid.

"We've got nothing back other than high diesel," he believes.

He added that Ukraine should be interested in reaching a deal.

"But Ukraine has to want to make a deal because the United States has spent a fortune. Europe has spent a fortune. Europe's tired of it right now," he said.

Trump believes that if Ukraine fails to reach a peace agreement with Russia, it's "really just going to get worse."

Earlier, US negotiators were reportedly trying to force Ukraine to capitulate in the war with Russia. However, Europe continues to support the Ukrainian people, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said.

In addition, Trump believes that Russia is behaving quite normally in the context of its war against Ukraine and the peace process.

Trump also said that peace negotiations on behalf of Ukraine should be conducted by someone other than President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
