US President Donald Trump stated that Russia is "behaving quite normally" in the context of the war against Ukraine and the peace process, the American leader said while speaking with journalists.
Trump was asked if he plans to hold a trilateral meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
He replied that he would hold such a meeting, not so much for Ukraine’s sake, as Russia was, frankly speaking, behaving quite normally on the issue of Ukraine and was not doing that much. The same applied to China. He added that they would hold a meeting to discuss nuclear weapons and denuclearization.
According to him, such a meeting would be a very positive event for the entire world, and it could be organized if Putin and Xi Jinping are willing.
Trump said that the meeting would likely be held in China if the other side wanted it. He added that he would agree if Chairman Xi wanted to host it, noting that they would also discuss other issues, such as trade. He confirmed that he would be willing to attend.
Controversial statements by Trump
After US President Donald Trump reached a diesel deal with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, he issued a series of critical statements directed at the Ukrainian authorities.
In particular, he stated that it was "harder to deal with" Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy than with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Trump also claimed that Zelenskyy allegedly did not want to reach a peace agreement.
In response, the head of the Ukrainian state emphasized that, on the contrary, it was easier for him to "deal with" Trump than with Putin. Zelenskyy also pointed out that Ukraine has every right to defend itself.
