The United States will hold Iran accountable for any future Houthi attacks on commercial vessels. Tehran and the Iran-backed militant group will face "major military punishment," stated US President Donald Trump on Truth Social.

New Houthi attacks and the US response

Trump recalled that a year ago the United States carried out major strikes against the Houthis in response to their interference with international shipping and attacks on civilian vessels. Since then, the group had refrained from similar actions.

However, last night the Houthis attacked two Saudi Arabian ships.

According to Trump, the United States will hold Iran responsible because the Houthis are an Iranian proxy.

Warning to Tehran

Trump stressed that if the attacks continue, Iran and its allies will face severe military consequences.

"If they do this again, the US will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a surrogate and/or proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis themselves," he said.

He also added that he was disappointed by the renewed attacks, saying the Houthis "have acted very responsibly" until now.

Escalating tensions in the Middle East

Tensions between the United States and Iran continue to rise following another series of incidents across the Middle East. The situation remains unstable, with the conflict entering a new and more dangerous phase.

Earlier, Trump suggested that the war with Iran would not end soon. He said the United States was far from finished with the conflict and had no plans to leave the region.

Trump later issued a stern warning to Iran over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the US military would respond decisively to any Iranian attacks in this strategic shipping route.
