The European Union (EU) will have to "pay a big price" if US presidential candidate Donald Trump wins the election, due to what he claims is Europe's failure to buy enough American exports, according to Reuters.

"I'll tell you what, the European Union sounds so nice, so lovely, right? All the nice European little countries that get together… They don't take our cars. They don't take our farm products. They sell millions and millions of cars in the United States. No, no, no, they are going to have to pay a big price," Trump stated during a rally in Pennsylvania.

According to Reuters, Trump threatened to impose a 10% tariff on imports from all countries and a 60% tariff on imports from China. Such a move, in turn, would impact global supply chains, potentially prompt retaliatory measures, and increase costs.

US elections

The US presidential election is set for November 5. The primary contenders for the position are Donald Trump, representing the Republican Party, and Kamala Harris, running for the Democratic Party.

Recent polling shows Trump holding a slight lead over Harris. However, according to a Bloomberg study, both candidates have equal chances in seven key battleground states.

Recently, Trump and his vice-presidential pick, J.D. Vance, unveiled a plan for resolving the war in Ukraine.
