Trump wants to see peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia by August 8, says US diplomat

US President Donald Trump wants Russia’s war against Ukraine to be over by August 8, states Acting US Alternate Representative John Kelley during a UN Security Council meeting, according to Reuters.
During his remarks to the 15 members of the UN Security Council, Kelley emphasized that both Russia and Ukraine must agree to a ceasefire and a lasting peace. In his view, the time for a peace agreement has come.
"President Trump has made clear this must be done by August 8. The United States is prepared to implement additional measures to secure peace," Kelley said.
Trump’s ultimatum
On July 14, US President Donald Trump stated that if Russia does not end the war with Ukraine within 50 days, his country will impose 100% secondary tariffs. These would affect Moscow’s key trading partners.
On July 29, the American leader emphasized that there was no point in waiting for 50 days anymore. Therefore, his deadline was shortened to 10 days. After that, Russia faces secondary tariffs and secondary sanctions.
At the same time, on July 30, Trump enacted tariffs against India. One of the reasons was its trade with Russia, as well as its purchase of Russian weapons.
More details on whether such threats can force Russian President Vladimir Putin to make concessions are available in the RBC-Ukraine report.
