Trump wants to reach agreement on ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia soon

The US expects to reach an agreement with Ukraine and Russia on a ceasefire relatively soon, states US President Donald Trump during a meeting with his Cabinet.
"We hope that we're going to be able to make a deal relatively soon with Russia and Ukraine to stop the fighting," Trump said.
He called the Russo-Ukrainian war "a senseless and horrible thing." The president also reiterated that if he had been in power in 2022, such a conflict would never have occurred.
"I think we're going to get it stopped. Got to get going. We have to move it faster," the president added.
Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia
Ukraine agreed to a complete ceasefire with Russia for 30 days back in March. Therefore, the only obstacle remaining on the path to such a ceasefire is Moscow's position.
Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to halt the fire without additional benefits for Russia. In particular, he is trying to ensure that Western countries stop supplying weapons to Ukraine during the ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov outright called the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire "unacceptable." He believes that such initiatives "do not solve Russia's problems."
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia could agree to a 30-day ceasefire if the US puts pressure on them.
