Trump to add another stop to Middle East tour, CNN reports

President of the United States of America Donald Trump may also visit Türkiye, as part of his tour of the Middle East, which will take place next month, CNN reports.
According to sources, a final decision on a visit to Türkiye has not yet been made.
A senior White House official said that Trump discussed a possible trip during a recent phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
CNN notes that, despite the uncertainty about whether Trump will visit Türkiye, the very fact of discussing this possibility is significant, since the American leader has not been to this country for a long time.
The last visit of the US president to Turkey took place in 2009.
Relations between Türkiye and US
Both countries are members of NATO and cooperate in the areas of security, counterterrorism, as well as military operations. The US has a military base in Türkiye, which is key to operations in the Middle East. Ankara, in turn, receives military assistance and technology from the United States.
As Bloomberg wrote, Erdoğan would like to meet with Trump. In particular, he expects the meeting to take place in April.
