In new comments, US President Donald Trump again drew attention to the situation surrounding elections in Ukraine and the negotiations on ending hostilities, emphasizing public sentiment in Ukraine and calling for political solutions, according to his remarks to the press.

During his interaction with reporters, the US President noted that, in his view, a significant portion of Ukrainians expect a transition to a political process.

He once again publicly addressed Ukrainian leadership, urging them to consider the possibility of reaching a peace agreement with Russia and to revisit the issue of holding elections in the country.

According to him, a key factor is the public’s desire to end the conflict. Trump stated that, as he claims, the majority of Ukrainians expect an agreement to be reached.

“I think he has to be realistic. They haven't had an election in a long time. It's losing a lot of people. I will say 82%, there was a poll that came out, 82% of the people are demanding a settlement be made. Ukrainian people, they want to see a settlement made. I understand that they're losing thousands and thousands of people a week. They want to see it ended,” he said.

What else did Trump say

US President Donald Trump reported that several European leaders have expressed their readiness to hold joint talks with the Ukrainian side and representatives of Washington, noting that such a meeting, according to him, could take place as early as this weekend.

Trump also stated that US forces intercepted a Venezuelan tanker near the country’s coast, calling it an interesting day from a news perspective, and added that Washington is preparing further steps against the regime of Nicolás Maduro in the near future.

Deputy Head of the Central Election Commission Serhii Dubovyk noted that the hostilities, which damaged election infrastructure and caused large-scale population displacement, have seriously complicated the conduct of voting. Therefore, preparing for free and safe elections in Ukraine according to international standards will require at least several months.

Additionally, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he expects concrete proposals from members of parliament regarding elections in Ukraine under martial law. He noted that he discussed this topic with parliamentary representatives and emphasized that he would not allow speculations aimed against the state to arise.
