US President Donald Trump criticized the previous administration for allocating $350 billion to Ukraine and stated that the US now only sells ammunition, for which the EU pays, according to a broadcast of his address to the nation.

US President Donald Trump once again harshly criticized the foreign policy of his predecessor, stating that the US should not have intervened in the war in Ukraine. The White House leader emphasized the enormous financial costs and the depletion of American arsenals.

During his conversation with journalists, Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the scale of support the US had previously provided to Ukraine and questioned the feasibility of Washington's deep involvement in the affairs of a country located across the ocean.

Key points of Trump's statement

The US president emphasized that the previous administration had spent colossal resources without, in his view, achieving any benefit for the US' national interests.

Criticism of funding: Trump called the previous president a fool for allocating about $350 billion to Ukraine. According to the current leader, that money was given in exchange for nothing.

Ammunition shortage: The White House leader stated that due to excessive weapons supplies to the Ukrainian side, American stockpiles had been critically depleted. That is why the US is now forced to massively ramp up production nationwide.

Change in aid format: Trump stressed that his approach is radically different: instead of giving weapons away for free, he sells ammunition.

Donald Trump said that they were now producing ammunition across the country because it was needed, adding that Joe Biden had given so much to Ukraine and received nothing in return, while he claimed that he sold them ammunition and that the European Union paid for it.

Context and pressure on Europe

This statement was made against the backdrop of growing tensions between Washington and Brussels. It is worth recalling that Trump had previously threatened European allies with cutting off weapons supplies to Ukraine under the PURL program if EU countries did not support the US military operation in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Trump's aggressive rhetoric indicates his desire to shift the financial burden of supporting Ukraine onto Europe's shoulders while simultaneously demanding greater loyalty from allies in other regions of the world.
