US President Donald Trump has shortened his original 50-day deadline given to Russian leader Vladimir Putin to reach a ceasefire with Ukraine, according to the President's statement to journalists during a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump said he is now giving Russia 10 or 12 days to resolve the issue with Ukraine, as no progress has been made.

"I’m going to make a new deadline, of about 10, 10 or 12 days from today. There’s no reason for waiting. It was 50 days, I wanted to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress being made," the US President said.

Trump is confident that Putin must reach a ceasefire deal, or the US President will impose additional tariffs on Russian goods.

In addition, journalists asked Trump whether he believes Putin is lying to him. He replied that he doesn’t want to use the word lying.

"And it seemed, on, let's say, three occasions, it seemed that we were going to have a ceasefire and maybe peace ... and all of a sudden missiles are flying into Kyiv and other places. And I say: 'What's that all about?'" Trump said.

According to him, this "has happened on too many occasions."

"And I don't like it. I don't like it," Trump added.

At the same time, Trump stated that he doesn’t want to impose additional sanctions because he loves the Russian people.

Trump’s 50-day ultimatum

Earlier, Trump warned Russia about new sanctions if Putin does not end the war against Ukraine — Moscow was given 50 days to make a decision. Against this backdrop, Trump also announced plans to impose 100% secondary tariffs on countries that continue trading with Russia.

According to media reports, these restrictions could affect Russian oil exports to China, India, and Türkiye.

At the same time, the American leader stated that if Putin refuses to meet the deadline and agree to a peace deal, "it's going to be too bad" for Russia.

Earlier today, Trump said he is once again disappointed with Putin’s actions and is ready to shorten the timeline.
