President Donald Trump said during a conversation with a journalist that he is considering the possibility of changing Venezuela’s political status, according to a post by Fox News correspondent John Roberts on Twitter (X).

The American leader said he is "seriously considering" a scenario in which Venezuela could become the 51st state of the United States.

US and Venezuela: Context

President of the United States Donald Trump announced the launch of a limited military operation in Venezuela, noting that it is not a full-scale invasion.

It is known that on the night of January 3, US forces carried out strikes on several military targets on the country’s territory. After that, explosions were heard in Caracas, and air activity was recorded.

Reports say the targets of the attacks included military infrastructure facilities, including bases in the Venezuelan capital. The presence of military helicopters in the airspace over Caracas was also mentioned.

As a result of the large-scale US operation, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was detained along with his wife and, according to reports, taken out of the country.

It is also reported that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores sustained head injuries during the operation to detain them carried out by US forces. According to the same reports, the injuries may have been self-inflicted.

At the same time, the United States Senate approved consideration of a resolution that would limit President Donald Trump’s authority regarding the possible use of military force in Venezuela and would require congressional approval for such actions.

Ousted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, during a court hearing in New York, declared their innocence.
