US President Donald Trump has become more positive about Ukraine after being impressed by the resilience and battlefield performance of Ukrainians, stated US Senator Lindsey Graham during a briefing in Kyiv.
Why Trump's position has changed
Graham emphasized that Trump likes winners, and now he sees Ukraine in that camp.
According to the senator, Trump has been deeply impressed by Ukraine's ability to change the course of the war.
Graham said the US President was deeply impressed by the resilience of the Ukrainian people fighting for their freedom. According to the senator, Trump was struck by how they had stepped up on the battlefield, turned the tide of the war, and managed to wage it so effectively.
He added that Trump has also taken a strong interest in the advanced technologies being developed in Ukraine, particularly innovations that could also benefit the United States.
The path to ending the war
Despite Ukraine's battlefield successes, Graham believes the war will ultimately be resolved through diplomacy. However, he stressed that Ukraine must negotiate from a position of strength.
The lawmaker noted that while this war could not be resolved exclusively on the battlefield, Ukraine was exerting significant pressure on Russia. He added that his goal was to end the war via diplomacy, stating that having greater leverage against Putin would yield a better outcome.
Graham believes now is the right time to strengthen Ukraine through technology sharing. This, combined with a global shift away from cheap Russian oil and gas, would help Trump bring the war to an end.
US initiatives to support Ukraine
During his visit to Kyiv, Graham outlined several strategic initiatives aimed at supporting Ukraine.
Among them, he presented a formula for ending Russia's war against Ukraine, based on stronger economic pressure on Moscow and technological superiority.
According to Graham, the text of a sweeping US sanctions bill against Russia has already been agreed with the Trump administration.
The senator also praised Ukraine's defense industry for its achievements in developing unmanned systems.
He said Ukraine has become a global leader in drone technology and argued that failing to cooperate with Kyiv in this field would be a mistake for the United States, as such cooperation would strengthen the defense capabilities of both countries.
