US President Donald Trump has admitted that certain actions by Russia's Vladimir Putin could sway him to Ukraine, The Atlantic reports.

During an interview with The Atlantic, editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg asked the US president if there was anything Putin could do that would make Trump say, "You know what? I’m on Zelenskyy’s side now."

"Not necessarily on Zelensky’s side, but on Ukraine’s side, yes. Yeah. But not necessarily on Zelensky’s side. I’ve had a hard time with Zelensky. You saw that over here when he was sitting right in that chair, when he just couldn’t get it." Trump replied.

Goldberg also asked Trump whether he sees a situation in which he would provide Ukraine with more weapons to help preserve its territorial integrity.

"Doesn’t have to be weapons. There are many forms of weapons. Doesn’t have to be weapons with bullets. It can be weapons with sanctions. It can be weapons with banking. It can be many other weapons," the US president said.

Trump once again repeated his thesis that the United States allegedly spent $350 billion to help Ukraine, while Europe helped much less.

"We’ll have to see what happens over the next period of pretty much a week. We’re down to final strokes. And again, this is Biden’s war. I’m not gonna get saddled—I don’t wanna be saddled with it. It’s a terrible war. Should have never happened. It would’ve never happened, as sure as you’re sitting there," Trump added.

Trump suggests Putin was deceiving him

On April 24, Russia massively attacked Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones. There were both injuries and deaths in the capital.

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican. Before the ceremony, they held one-on-one talks.

Shortly afterward, Trump wrote on social media that Russia had no reason to launch missile strikes against Kyiv. In addition, he suggested that Putin might be lying to him and not wanting to end the war.
