Trump says no longer to debate Harris
Immediately following the first debate, Kamala Harris' presidential campaign challenged Donald Trump to a second debate. However, the former president declared he would not engage in further debates with the vice president, according to Politico.
“THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!,” Trump wrote in all caps on Truth Social, on Thursday, September 12.
The first debate took place in June with President Joe Biden, after which the incumbent decided not to seek re-election. The second debate occurred on Tuesday, September 10, with Vice President Kamala Harris, who entered the presidential race in Biden’s place.
Politico reports that Harris’ campaign, which initially did not respond to requests for comment, proposed additional debates to Trump immediately after their encounter earlier this week. Fox News, which is considered Republican-friendly, also suggested hosting these debates.
However, on Wednesday, Trump stated on Fox & Friends that he would probably not agree to new debates with the network, and on Thursday, confirmed he would not participate in any further debates with the US vice president. Trump cited a decisive victory in the debate, which, according to general opinion, was beneficial to Harris.
CNN reported that Trump’s allies consider his performance in the debate with Harris, at best, unsuccessful and, at worst, a defeat.
Despite the former president’s refusal to participate in additional debates, most of his associates told CNN that Trump is likely to agree to new debates eventually.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, Harris leads Trump by 5% following the debates.
