Trump says he's 'very surprised' by Putin's 'misguided' strategy

Russian President Vladimir Putin supposedly wants to end the war against Ukraine. But right now he is mistaken in his actions, US President Donald Trump said at a press conference following the NATO summit in The Hague.
Trump noted that he does not rule out that the goals of Russian President Vladimir Putin may extend beyond Ukraine.
"I know one thing, he'd (Putin) like to settle. He'd like to get out of this thing, it's a mess for him. He called the other day. He said, can I help you with Iran? I said, no, you can help me with Russia," Trump said.
The President boasted that in recent weeks the US has managed to settle conflicts between India and Pakistan, and between Kosovo and Serbia. Washington also aims to reconcile Congo and Rwanda.
"I consider him a person that's, I think, been misguided. I'm very surprised, actually. I thought we would have had that settled," the American leader added.
At the same time, he expressed hope that an agreement between Ukraine and Russia could be reached.
Trump's mediation
Recall that US President Donald Trump acted as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia. In particular, he was in contact with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
After Trump failed to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine within a few months of his inauguration, he, according to media reports, stated that Kyiv and Moscow must find a solution themselves.
