Donald Trump’s team has expressed positive views regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the United States and the signing of the minerals deal. Zelenskyy is set to meet with Trump on February 28, according to NBC News.
Trump’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, shared his optimism about the rare earth deal and Zelenskyy’s upcoming visit in an interview with Fox News.
“I think it’s a really good sign that President Zelenskyy will be here tomorrow (February 28 - ed.),” he said, referring to the expected arrival of Ukraine’s leader.
Vitkoff added that Trump is “eager to get this (the signing of the agreement - ed.) behind and move on to get a peace deal done between Ukraine and Russia".
Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump
On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with US President Donald Trump. The negotiations will include the signing of a framework agreement between the two countries, focusing on rare earth metals.
Zelenskyy has previously commented on the deal, acknowledging that it could either be a significant success or go unnoticed. Trump has stated that by signing the agreement, Ukraine would automatically receive certain security guarantees.
It is also important to note that the temporarily occupied territories contain rare earth metals valued at $350 billion. Zelenskyy has emphasized the importance of protecting these resources to prevent them from falling into Russian hands.
