The G7 summit, which this year will be held in France, has been moved by one day so that US President Donald Trump can celebrate his birthday, according to Politico.
According to the publication, France originally planned to hold the summit from June 14 to 16. However, June 14 is Flag Day in the US, and it is also Donald Trump’s birthday.
This year, the American president is celebrating a milestone – his 80th birthday.
In October, Trump announced that on June 14 there would be a “big UFC fight” at the White House – a mixed martial arts championship. Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White confirmed that the event program has already been finalized.
Against this background, Paris announced the updated G7 summit schedule – now the leaders’ meeting is planned for June 15–17. The office of the French president refused to directly confirm that the rescheduling was related to Trump’s birthday. At the same time, they noted that the new schedule is “the result of consultations with G7 partners.”
Summits under Trump – not the first time
It should be noted that this is not the first time international summits have been adjusted to Donald Trump’s schedule. Last year, the NATO summit program in The Hague (June 24–25) was partially adapted specifically for him.
According to Western media, organizers shortened the main part of the summit to a single session lasting about two and a half hours instead of the traditional multi-hour discussions. The press called this format “short and pleasant,” noting that it was done to avoid tension and conflicts involving Trump.
This also affected the NATO summit’s final communiqué – the document was significantly shorter, and traditional topics, including condemning Russian aggression and issues of Alliance expansion, were presented in a more general form.
Interestingly, at that time, Trump was supposed to have a conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, the American leader left the summit early.
At the same time, Trump sharply responded to remarks by French leader Emmanuel Macron regarding his trip from Canada to Washington.
