US President Donald Trump acknowledged that Vladimir Putin is currently in a weaker position regarding the war in Ukraine, according to DW journalist Michaela Kuefner.

.

"I am told Trump listened and recognized that Putin is now in a weaker position than before at G7 exchange on Ukraine," she writes.

Kuefner also reports that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet face-to-face immediately after the general meeting with Trump. The journalist also noted that Merz sees a "window opening" as he had mentioned earlier.

According to Kuefner, both ignored a reporter’s question regarding additional Patriot missiles for Ukraine.

Following the resolution of the Iran crisis, Donald Trump stated that the US intends to focus on ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. According to him, approximately 25,000 people are dying each month due to the fighting.

Zelenskyy and Trump discussed the possibility of holding a meeting with Putin on US soil in a format that would make it more difficult for Putin to avoid negotiations. Zelenskyy emphasized that if Moscow refused, international pressure on Russia would need to be intensified.

Kyiv had previously conveyed to Russia, through intermediaries, diplomatic channels, and intelligence agencies, a proposal for a meeting between the leaders during the G7 summit with the participation of the US President.
