US President Donald Trump has again announced good news regarding an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine, speaking to journalists in Qatar.

Trump noted that Qatar is also involved in ending Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as in solving problems in other regions.

"I think we're having some pretty good news coming out of there today and maybe tomorrow, and maybe Friday," Trump said.

Trump's statements

During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine. However, after taking office as US President, he began making pro-Russian statements and effectively accused Ukraine's leadership of starting the war.

Earlier, Trump claimed that Zelenskyy was a "dictator without elections" because, over three years of war, he had done nothing to end it. However, just a few days later, Trump stated that Russia was to blame for the war but also shifted some of the responsibility to Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Joe Biden.

Peace talks in Istanbul

After the three-day ceasefire declared by Vladimir Putin, which lasted from May 8 to 11, Ukraine, along with the Coalition of the Willing countries, presented Russia with a demand to implement a full 30-day ceasefire starting from May 12. If rejected, the European Union threatened new, severe sanctions against Moscow.

In response, Putin stated that Russia would not accept ultimatums and instead proposed resuming peace talks on May 15 in Istanbul. Türkiye agreed to act as a mediator in this process.

Meanwhile, the media reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to the talks in Istanbul on May 15 because he did not want to offend US President Donald Trump. He also stated that he was open to direct talks with Putin. However, Putin has yet to respond regarding whether he is willing to personally attend the negotiations in Türkiye.
