The Cuban government could reach a deal with the United States and cease to exist in its current form very soon, stated US President Donald Trump, CNN reports.

Predictions on regime change

According to the outlet, the American leader believes the political situation on the island has reached a critical point.

He said that official Havana is currently extremely interested in establishing dialogue with Washington.

"Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon... They want to make a deal so badly," Trump emphasized.

He added that he has been observing the situation in the country for 50 years. "It’s fallen right into my lap because of me," he added.

The appointment of Marco Rubio

To implement his Cuba strategy, the President plans to involve Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump stressed that this issue is a top priority, although the administration is currently mainly focused on Iran.

"I’m going to put Marco over there, and we’ll see how that works out. We’re really focused on this one right now," Trump explained.

Trump also noted that the process of bringing American Cubans home is a "question of time," but the administration is avoiding rushing to prevent negative consequences.

US-Cuba relations under Trump

Previously, Donald Trump took several steps to increase pressure on Havana. In particular, he returned Cuba to the list of state sponsors of terrorism, significantly restricting the island’s financial operations. Against this backdrop, the crisis between the countries continues to escalate.

Although Trump spoke of readiness for a "friendly" takeover through economic tools, Cuban authorities continue to resist. Official Havana has already rejected Trump’s calls, emphasizing that it will not agree to any deal under pressure.

At the same time, the Cuban President issued a statement on negotiations, outlining the conditions under which dialogue with Washington would be possible.
