Following his inauguration, US President-elect Donald Trump has instructed his aides to organize a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. This conversation could take place in the coming days, CNN reports.

According to the American broadcasting company, the purpose of the conversation between Trump and Putin will be to discuss a possible personal meeting in the coming months.

During this meeting, the US president will attempt to end Russia's war against Ukraine, knowledgeable sources told CNN.

It is noted that Trump's national security team officials began working on the phone call with Putin "several weeks ago." However, it remains unclear whether the exact date of the conversation was finalized.

American media also reminded that during his presidential campaign, as a candidate, Trump promised to end Russia's war with Ukraine within a day of his inauguration if he won the election.

Later, Trump's team adjusted the timeline for such an action. Currently, there are no clear signs that Russia's large-scale military aggression against Ukraine is nearing its end.

CNN also mentioned that Trump and his team hope to quickly begin work on a settlement plan, which could be "realized within the first months days of his presidency - including by speaking directly with Putin."

About a week ago, Trump stated he would like to meet with Putin as soon as possible after his inauguration on January 20. According to the future US President, the end of the war against Ukraine depends on the Russian leader.

Earlier, future US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that a phone conversation between Trump and Putin is expected "in the coming days and weeks." Furthermore, the Kremlin expressed readiness for a meeting with Trump without any preconditions.
