According to Mike Waltz, US President-elect Donald Trump's future national security adviser, Trump may soon speak with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. But preparations for their possible meeting are still underway, ABC News reports.

For example, in an interview with ABC News, the future adviser was asked when a meeting between Trump and Putin might take place. He replied: “Preparations are underway.”

The journalist then asked Waltz whether he was talking about a bilateral meeting between the leaders of the United States and Russia or, perhaps, a trilateral meeting with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We have not yet set the exact framework for it. Yet we are working on it. But I do expect a call (between Trump and Putin - ed.) in the coming days and weeks," Waltz said in response.

In 2024, Trump has already had several contacts with Zelenskyy in various formats. These were both phone calls and several meetings. However the future US president has not yet had official contact with Putin.

Last fall, The Washington Post reported, citing sources, that Trump and Putin had allegedly had contact. However, neither Trump's team nor the Kremlin confirmed this later.

After winning the election, Trump claimed that Putin wanted to meet with him. Recently, the US president-elect spoke again about Putin's desire to talk and added that preparations for such a contact are already underway.

Moreover, Switzerland has already offered to become a platform for future talks between Putin and Trump.
