Trump announces preparations for meeting with Putin
US President-elect Donald Trump has stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to meet with him. The meeting is already in the works, reports Reuters.
Trump's statement came on Thursday (January 9 in the US) during his speech before a meeting with Republican governors at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.
"President Putin wants to meet. He has said that even publicly and we have to get that war over with," said the US president-elect, who will soon take office.
Several other media outlets interpret the translation, with Trump saying, and we are working on it. However, he did not specify any dates for the meeting.
Based on Trump's remarks, some media outlets are already reporting that negotiations are also underway with Chinese President Xi Jinping (referring to a separate meeting).
What did Putin say about the conversation with Trump
In November, The Washington Post reported that after his victory in the US presidential elections, Trump and Putin had a phone conversation, allegedly on the 7th. However, both the Kremlin and Donald Trump denied the call.
At the end of December, during the so-called annual Direct Line with Putin, the Russian President personally denied speaking with the US president-elect, while also stating that he was ready for a meeting.
