Trump meets Xi Jinping in Beijing for high-stakes talks

US President Donald Trump arrived at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping began, CNN reports.
Donald Trump's motorcade has already arrived at Tiananmen Square, in the very center of the Chinese capital, after which he exited the vehicle. Xi Jinping was waiting for him near the Great Hall of the People.
Chinese leader greeted US president with a handshake, after which Trump shook hands with and greeted the Chinese and American delegations.
Trump is directly accompanied by members of his national security and economic team, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
In addition to representatives of Trump's administration, a delegation of company CEOs is also present at the event, including Jensen Huang (Nvidia) and Tim Cook (Apple).
After handshakes, the welcome ceremony began. Trump and Xi Jinping walked along a red carpet while soldiers in uniform lined up to the sounds of ceremonial music.
A group of children also stood near the red carpet, greeting each other, jumping, and waving Chinese and American flags and bouquets.

As CNN writes, a busy day awaits the two leaders, including a bilateral meeting, after which a cultural visit to the Temple of Heaven and a state banquet will take place.
The meeting of leaders will take place directly in the Great Hall of the People. The building is an important landmark and is often used for political events, such as the annual session of the legislative body and the top consultative body.
Today at the meeting, Trump and Xi Jinping will discuss sensitive issues, including technology, trade, and Iran.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Donald Trump's visit to the country will last from May 13 to May 15.
Before this, Trump said he plans to have a long conversation with Xi Jinping about war with Iran. At the same time, he downplayed the importance of possible assistance in ending the war.
