US President-elect Donald Trump may soon appoint a special representative for peace in Ukraine. This person will lead negotiations with Russia on ending the war, according to Fox News.

"You’re going to see a very senior special envoy, someone with a lot of credibility, who will be given a task to find a resolution, to get to a peace settlement," the news agency quotes an unnamed source.

The source clarified that the appointment will happen "in short order."

At the same time, Fox News claims that this position will be unpaid — Kurt Volker served as the US State Department's special representative for Ukraine from 2017 to 2019 on a voluntary basis.

Rumors about Trump's conversation with Putin

Earlier, The Washington Post reported on negotiations between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The main topic of the discussions was Russia's war against Ukraine.

According to the media outlet, the US president-elect advised the Kremlin leader not to escalate the war. Trump also reminded Putin of the presence of US troops in Europe.

At the same time, Trump allegedly expressed interest in continuing the dialogue to find a solution to the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, the American politician, commenting on Russia's war against Ukraine, assured that he "wants a fair deal" for all parties involved.
