US President Donald Trump may have temporarily forgotten about Greenland, but could soon renew his interest in bringing the island under US control, said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during a speech in the country's parliament.

Copenhagen believes that the US president may soon show renewed interest in bringing the island under US control.

The Danish Prime Minister stated this during a speech in the country's parliament.

She noted that Trump has not recently expressed public plans regarding Greenland, but this pause is only temporary.

"Right now, it seems distant. Perhaps there is a feeling that we can breathe a sigh of relief. I believe we cannot," Frederiksen said.

According to the Prime Minister, 60,000 residents of Greenland still live in fear of a potential American takeover.

"Imagine what it is like to live in one of the small settlements along the coast… when the most powerful superpower in the world speaks of you as something to be bought, as something to be owned, as something that must be had," Frederiksen said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Copenhagen supports Greenland in determining its own future and will not yield to threats or intimidation to do "something clearly wrong."

Last month, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen sharply reacted to reports about possible attempts by individuals close to US President Donald Trump to influence political processes in Greenland.

Trump's position on Greenland

Since his return to the White House in January, Trump has been advocating for the United States to take control of Greenland, citing reasons of national and international security.

However, this demand was categorically rejected not only by Greenland but also by Denmark, with the support of other European countries.

Following Trump's statements, protests took place in Greenland.
