'Yankee, go home!' Anti-Trump protests erupt in Greenland

Protests took place in Greenland against the policy of US President Donald Trump, reports Dagens Nyheter. He stated that the United States would certainly control the island.
About a thousand people gathered for a protest in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk. This is the largest rally in the history of the island. In total, the population of Greenland is about 57,000 people, and Nuuk - 19,000. So, this number of participants is rather significant.
The protest also took place in Sisimiut, the second-largest city in Greenland.
“We may have different views on many issues, but we are all united in this,” said Jens-Frederik Nielsen, leader of the liberal Demokraatit party.
Nielsen's party won the parliamentary elections. He may become the new prime minister of Greenland.

The protesters chanted slogans: “Yankees, go home” and ”We are not for sale.” The protests were held under the slogan “Greenland belongs to the Greenlandic people”.
At the same time, Trump supporters were seen in the island's capital wearing MAGA (Make America Great Again) caps. This is the slogan of Trump's political campaign.
Trump's encroachment on Greenland
Donald Trump spoke about his desire to buy Greenland during his first presidency. The Danish authorities reject the possibility of buying the island.
The island's possible new prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, responded to Trump's encroachment by emphasizing that Greenland wants to be independent.
During a recent speech to Congress, Trump said that the United States would get Greenland “one way or another.” He also said that the island could be annexed. Denmark, after these words of the US president, reminded him of international law.
