According to Zelenskyy, during a phone call on Saturday, US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine was "doing very well" in its long-range drone strike campaign.
When asked whether that was enough for Trump to fully side with Ukraine, Zelenskyy replied that, in his view, the US leader had begun looking at the war differently.
"President Trump wants to be where there’s success," Zelenskyy emphasized.
The Ukrainian president suggested that Trump's position may be influenced not only by his personal views, but also by the approaching elections, his political standing, and his vision of how Russia's war against Ukraine can be brought to an end.
A NATO summit will be held in Ankara on July 7-8, where Trump is expected to meet with Zelenskyy. The White House said the two leaders are set to discuss ways to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
According to the Associated Press, Trump may also hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin following his meeting with Zelenskyy.
Earlier, Trump stated that Putin was allegedly "feeling pressure" and that an end to the war could be closer than many people believe.
