The NATO summit in Ankara on July 7–8 could serve as a platform for discussing ways to end Russia's war against Ukraine, according to the Associated Press.

US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday during the NATO summit in Ankara. The meeting was confirmed by White House spokesperson Anna Kelly in comments to reporters.

According to AP, a senior US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Trump feels an urgent need to end Russia's war against Ukraine. The US president intends to discuss possible paths toward ending the conflict with Zelenskyy.

The same official added that after the talks in Ankara, Trump is expected to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, Trump held separate phone calls with Zelenskyy and Putin. Both leaders congratulated the US president on the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Following the conversation, Zelenskyy said the parties discussed the situation on the battlefield. He also spoke of a "real prospect of ending this war" and noted that the dialogue would continue during the NATO summit.

After the call, the Kremlin claimed that Trump had reaffirmed his readiness to help bring a swift end to the fighting and seek peaceful ways to resolve the war.

As previously reported, Trump has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is allegedly "feeling pressure" and that the end of Russia's war against Ukraine may be closer than many believe.

According to Trump, both Ukraine and Russia supposedly want to stop the fighting, and negotiations on the matter are already underway. He also said that ending the war is expected to be discussed with NATO allies.
