Trump is dead? How Vance and ‘Simpsons’ creator start viral trend online

US Vice President JD Vance accidentally started a trend on the social media platform X regarding President Donald Trump. Thousands of posts appeared with the hashtag "Trump is dead,” CNBC and Newsweek report.
On August 30, the platform recorded at least 87,000 posts with a total reach of 1.3 million users, all linked by the phrase "Trump is dead." This occurred not only due to Vance but also because of ongoing speculation about Trump’s health.
For example, he is often absent from public events, and a suspicious bruise appears on his hand in the same spot repeatedly. This mark is believed to be left by an intravenous needle or injections for medical treatments.
How it all starts
On August 27, Vance said in an interview with USA Today that he was ready to become President if a “terrible tragedy” were to happen to the current leader of the country. However, Vance emphasized that Trump is in excellent shape, very energetic, and in “incredibly good health.”
“Yes, terrible tragedies happen. But I feel very confident the President of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” Vance stated.
Matt Groening, the creator of the famous animated series The Simpsons, fuelled the conversation with statements at the Comic-Con festival in San Diego back in July. He joked that the show would continue “until somebody dies...when you-know-who dies,” clearly hinting at Trump.
“No, there’s no end in sight. We're going to keep going. We’re going to go until somebody dies. When you-know-who dies, The Simpsons predicts that there will be dancing in the streets. Except President (JD) Vance will ban dancing,” Groening said.
After that, social media literally exploded. Many users joked about Trump’s death, while others expressed concern about his health, and some openly rejoiced.
Do rumors have basis?
In reality, Trump has recently faced health issues. In July, the White House confirmed that the President had chronic venous insufficiency - something typical for people his age.
Regarding the bruises on Trump’s hand, the White House explained them as minor soft tissue irritation due to frequent handshakes and aspirin use. The latter is reportedly used as part of preventive measures for cardiovascular diseases, conditions that are also common among older individuals, like the US President.
Meanwhile, Trump himself feels fine. Despite not appearing publicly since August 26, on August 30, the US President made his usual trip to play golf, where he spends most weekends.
Trump’s arrival was caught on photos and videos, disproving reports about his potential death. He was accompanied by his granddaughter, Kai Trump.
Trump’s health
On July 17, Trump underwent a medical examination due to "mild swelling" in his legs and bruising on one of his arms. The US President was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency
Previously, in April, Trump had his annual medical check-up. Doctors evaluated his health and reported whether he was fit to be the American leader. According to his medical record, Trump has:
- Well-controlled hypercholesterolemia;
- Seasonal allergies;
- History of COVID-19 infection;
- Rosacea;
- Actinic keratosis;
- Benign nevi;
- Diverticulosis;
- Benign colon polyp.
